Anton Spiteri
02-28-2008
It has come to our attention that a former employee of the IICB, Dr. Anton Spiteri, is commenting publicly about the IICB, in direct violation of his employment contract. We are sadly disappointed that Anton's termination has resulted in such a sorry state of affairs. The entire management board would like to express its sympathies to Anton. It would be uncouth of the IICB to comment on Anton's personal life, but we know it is a trying time for him and his estranged wife. We acknowledge that Anton's claims against the IICB are grave. Indeed, if they had any merit, we would be up-in-arms just as Anton is. However, his baseless assertions have no grounding in reality. While Anton can play fast and loose with the truth, we at the IICB hold ourselves to a higher standard. A review of the facts is in order: Fact: Dr. Anton Spiteri was brought on, as all new-hires are, on a probational basis. The IICB determined that Anton should not matriculate to full-time staff status, and that his probational freelance status should be terminated on the 12th of December, 2007. Fact: Anton's duties included, among others: washing test-tubes, disinfecting laboratory instruments, feeding primates, and five hours a week in the blood-stat lab. Any exposure to genetic laboratory facilities or field habitats was cursory at best. Anton was not a member of our HostHelp team. It is Dr. Spiteri who has sought to bring the spot-light onto himself. We offered him relocation assistance and a two-month severance out of respect, and his signature is on his exit-contract, which reinforces his employment contract's non-disclosure agreement. We wish Anton the best, but his tall tales about the IICB should be relegated to the world of fantasy. --IICB Management Board, February 28, 2008 |
